La Oficina de Acción Humanitaria da respuesta a las diversas necesidades humanitarias en Venezuela, especialmente en dos sectores humanitarios clave: la seguridad alimentaria, atendiendo a los más de 4 millones de personas en situación de subnutrición en el país; y la protección de la salud, en un contexto en el que entre el 70% y 90% de medicinas y material hospitalario necesario no está disponible, según organizaciones humanitarias que trabajan en el país.
España ha estado siguiendo muy de cerca la situación humanitaria en Venezuela y países vecinos en los últimos años y viene trabajando con diferentes actores en la zona desde el año 2017.
La AECID apoya el trabajo que se está llevando a cabo desde las agencias de Naciones Unidas, el Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz Roja y distintas ONG para dar respuesta a las necesidades existentes. Del mismo modo, España ha defendido que este contexto humanitario esté presente al más alto nivel en la agenda humanitaria de la Unión Europea y de Naciones Unidas.
España sigue con atención la evolución del contexto y reitera la necesidad de que se respeten los principios de humanidad, neutralidad, imparcialidad e independencia reconocidos en las resoluciones 46/182 de 1991 y 58/114 de 2004 de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas como elementos que deben guiar la acción humanitaria.
